We want to welcome you!
Welcome librarians,
Whether you are a new or returning member, Bay Area Independent School Librarians is a wonderful group of which to be a part. BAISL provides support for over 130 independent school librarians from Sacramento to Monterey. We work to support and encourage one another in what can sometimes be a lonely profession. We do this by the personal contacts made with other members at our meetings, fostering partnerships with librarians at similar grade levels or locales, and online through forums on our Ning
and listserv. By participating in BAISL, you are participating in the most
worthy aspects of librarianship — collaboration, communication, and
resourcefulness.
Membership in BAISL offers participants support and benefits in the
following ways: three lively meetings a year with an assortment of
programs; entrance to our Ning online community providing specialized
resources; opportunities to apply for grants to promote varied aspects of
librarianship; and substantial savings on a range of databases for
kindergarten through twelfth grade through our consortium pricing. BAISL
membership brings connections to the best of 21st century practices of
librarianship. Please contact me at baislpresident@baisl.org with any
questions or thoughts.
Most sincerely,
Joyce Roby
President
BAISL membership FAQ's
What is the cost of joining BAISL?
We now offer two ways to join: as an individual ($35) or as an institution ($100). The individual member will receive the same print directory, invitation to BAISL meetings and conferences, and consortium pricing for their school. The institutional membership is an economical choice for schools which have more than two librarians who wish to become members.
When is the membership/renewal membership form due?
October 15th of each year.
How do I renew my BAISL membership?
Open enrollment begins July 1 and ends October 15.
Option 1: Renewal forms can be downloaded and returned by mail with payment to the address on the form
Option 2: Renewal invoices will be sent out to BAISL members (who have not already renewed) in late August and should be returned with payment by October 15.
Who can become a member of BAISL?
BAISL is for independent school librarians in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Who do I contact for further information about joining BAISL?
To join, send a completed application with applicable fees to:
Lori Deibel, Membership Director
membership@baisl.org
415-455-7133
What are the benefits of joining BAISL?
• An online directory of members
• Specially generated lists, reports, and other surveys to boost support for your school library program
• Discounted rates on databases and other subscription-based services, such as Gale, EBSCO, ProQuest and others
• Participation in various committees to help strengthen independent school libraries of the Bay Area
• Three yearly meetings which feature nationally recognized speakers on current topics, professional discussions and dialog, and a support network of fellow librarians
If I am replacing a BAISL member librarian at my school, does that make me a member of BAISL?
No, BAISL membership is for individuals, not institutions (the institutional membership is only offered as a price break for three or more librarians at a given school). In order to update the contact information for your school you will be required to join BAISL by filling out the membership form and paying the appropriate dues.
Can I remain a BAISL member if I leave an independent school library and join a non-independent school library?
Non-independent school librarians are not eligible for BAISL membership at this time.
Can I remain a BAISL member when I retire?
Yes, retiring members can continue to renew their membership by making sure to update their contact information. Membership fees are waived for retired members, but donations are appreciated.
