President, Carolyn Karis
president@baisl.org

Carolyn Karis has taught kindergarten through university. After nine years at The Hamlin School, she moved to Urban School to serve as its school librarian for fourteen years and counting. Growing up in New Jersey, she moved across the country with stops in Pennsylvania, St. Louis, Little Rock, and Ann Arbor. In all locations, she has enjoyed hiking, camping, sewing, reading and having fun with her husband and sons. For the past five years, she has complemented school librarianship with editing the Professional Pages section of Knowledge Quest.

Vice-President, Joyce Roby
vicepresident@baisl.org

Joyce Roby has been an educator and librarian for more years than she dares tell—much of it at Head-Royce School in Oakland. In the fall of 2007 she will move to the Phillips Brooks School in Menlo Park to be the librarian for their pre K-5 program. She loves finding books that students grab from her hands, reading to anyone who will listen, and putting web pages together for her faculty. In her leisure world Joyce lusts for lazy days with good books, delighting in beautiful gardens, and listening to what fabrics tell her to sew. She is incredibly proud to be a part of BAISL, knowing that in a few short years it has grown from a handful of plucky, forward-thinking librarians to an organization of well over 100 members. BAISL rocks!

Treasurer, Solvig Dimon (The San Francisco School)

Julia Haverstock Secretary, Julia Haverstock (Holy Names High School)
secretary@baisl.org

Julia Haverstock is the librarian at Holy Names High School in Oakland, CA.  After moving to Calfornia from North Carolina, she worked in restaurants doing everything from washing dishes to growing the produce and balancing the accounts.  Her career as a librarian began in 2005, a few days before her graduation from San Jose State University with her MLIS.  Since then she has devoted her time to buying relevant and scintillating books for teachers and students and working to increase information literacy at HNHS.
